If A happens then B will happen so we should not do A.

Henry states that by allowing women to vote, we will next be allowing animals to vote.

Daniel states that women have every right to vote, as sex is irrelavent to a persons instrinsic rights.

Ad Hominem attack

Instead of relying on logical argument you attack a persons character. Discredit them and undermine their argument.

Daniel states that lots of crime is happening, lots of inequality, services are failing and people need help.

Emma says Daniel should not try to be so clever, should not go around telling people he works in Technology and is very good at it.

Tu Quoque

Instead of responding to the criticism you answer it with criticism ie hypocrisy or a double standard.

Henry says he does not want park on yellow lines or he will get a parking ticket.

Julie says you have over a hundred parking tickets, one more will not hurt.

The Double Fallacy

If someone makes a claim which is false but uses a logical argument to try and prove it, it does not mean it is true..

Henry says that there is lots of crime happening because everyone is complaining about it.

Peter states everyone complaining about something is a fallacy as that is correlation without causation or false cause therefore Henry's overall argument is false. However there still could be lots of crime happening.

Special Pleading

Instead of giving a valid argument you move the goalposts when proven wrong.

All human knowledge is based on ….human, …knowledge. We can use the principle of Occam's Razor which states that: when you have two competing theories that predicts the same thing, the simpler one is more likely. We, humans, came to some conclusions about our surroundings and decided to tell each other about it. The problem is that not all human knowledge is necessarily correct. These comments are from their FAQ. 1. "What about the stars, sun and moon and other planets? Are they flat too? What are they made of?" The sun and moon, each 32 miles in diameter, rotate at a height of 3,000 miles above sea level. As they are spotlights, they only illuminate certain places. This explains why there are nights and days on Earth. The stars are at a height of 3,100 miles above sea level, which is as far as from San Francisco to Boston. In the dark energy model, the celestial bodies are spherical and are made of ordinary matter. These spheres are being held above the Earth by DE. 2. "Why are other planets round, but not the Earth?"  The Earth is not one of the other planets. The Earth is special and unlike the other bodies in numerous ways. Daniel: When you fly in an aeroplane, you can see the curvature of the Earth. 3. "What about satellites? How do they orbit the Earth?"  Since sustained spaceflight is not possible, satellites cannot orbit the Earth. The signals we supposedly receive from them are either broadcast from towers or any number of possible pseudolites. However, temporary space-flight is possible. Daniel: I am currently issuing all the Global Positioning Data, on my own, using a mobile phone and talking realy, really quickly because I am special. 4. "Please explain sunrises and sunsets." It is a perspective effect. The sun is just getting farther away: it looks like it is disappearing because everything gets smaller, and eventually disappears as it gets farther away. Daniel: Anything getting farther away from you gets smaller. The Sun does not get smaller at sunset. 5. "Exactly what shape is the Earth if it is flat? Square or circle?"  Circle, like in the UN logo. However, the earth is not 2D; it is in the shape of a cylinder. Daniel: If this was the case people on the edges of the circle would gain altitude and see a distorted circle. Not everyone would see a circular Earth. 6. "Why doesn't water run off the Earth?"  There is a vast "ice wall" that keeps the water where it is. This explains why you can find a vast plane of ice as you travel southward. The wall is roughly 150ft high. In the McIntyre model, however, the height of the wall increases further as one moves toward the edge of the world. Daniel: This would result in an infinite wall of ice which would compress the lower levels of ice destroying the Earth. 7. "What about time zones?"  The sun is a spotlight which shines light on a concentrated area, so not everywhere on Earth will be lit at once. Times zones exist so that everyone's clock will be at 12:00 around the time the sun is approximately directly overhead.  Me: As, at some point, everyone on Earth experiences the Sun directly overhead this would mean this "spotlight" would have to travel to every single point on Earth but you have already stated it travels in a circle around the equator. 8. "What about Lunar Eclipses?"  A celestial body, known as the antimoon, passes between the sun and moon. This projects a shadow upon the moon. Daniel: If this were the case we would have noticed it. Also a body that large would have a gravitational impact on the Earth and the Moon, unless it was made of out a large paper plate held up by an army of fairies. Really, really strong fairies. How can this happen if the world is flat?"  You need to have evidence for this to be true. Also, define "straight." Remember, the northern point on the compass is pointing toward the center of the Earth. If you follow your compass due east or due west, ending up at the same point you started from, you have just gone around the world in a circle. Thus, circumnavigation is possible on FE. Daniel: You do not need to follow a compass. Pick a star and travel towards it. You will move outwards on a slow curve and never return to your starting point. On a cylinder you would reach the edge of the cylinder. The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge towers are 1 5⁄8 inches (41.275 mm) farther apart at their tops than at their bases because of the height of the towers (693 ft/211 m) and their distance apart (4,260 ft/1,298 m) the curvature of the Earth's surface had to be taken into account when designing the bridge. Take two weather balloons. 2. Attach a camera to each one. 3. Attach a GPS Unit to retrieve the balloons. 4. Give one to a friend on the other side of the world (flat disc). 5. Launch balloons. 6. Wait 7. Retrieve balloons 8. Compare images Apparently the ice wall at the edge of the cylindrical Earth is a range of mountains that stops all the water from falling off the edge. Antarctica is apparently the icewall. How can we test this theory? 1. The First step is observation. 2. The next step is to ask a question and form a hypothesis. 3. Then we need to predict what would occur if our hypothesis was true. 4. Perform experiments showing evidence supporting the theory. 5. Confirm the results of your experiments by having other reproduce it. Observation When I look outside the Earth looks flat. Hypothesis The Earth is flat because it looks flat. Prediction If the Earth was flat we could see the edge of it, objects would fall off the edge including ourselves. Experiment Have multiple people travel all over the world, through the atmosphere and into space and report their results giving us multiple viewpoints not just our own viewpoint. Evidence 1. No-one has seen or photographed the "several mile high" ice walls. 2. The surface of the Earth appears to change as you move around it and does not get smaller. 3. No-one has found an edge. 4. Many people have found that the Earth horizon becomes more curved the higher you travel out of the atmosphere. 5. Many people have found that the Earth has no edge and when you travel along the equator you simply see different parts of the Earth. 6. From space we have multiple pictures of the Earth from different viewpoints. 7. Satellites have travel around the Earth and photographed it. 8. In no images does the Earth look cylindrical. 9. No-one has fallen off the Earth. 10. No-one has seen any other cylindrical planets amongst the other 30 sextillion to the power of a septillion stars. 11. If the Earth was a flat face on a cylinder if would defy all known laws of physics as matter is attracted to other matter and condenses to form objects. These objects are spherical as gravity acts with an equal force in all directions. Also the conservation of angular momentum would ensure any shape would converge into a disk and finally into a sphere. A disk would initially be formed due to the increased centripetal force in the horizontal plane until attracted by gravity to form a sphere. This would also instil a rotation in the sphere due to the conservation of angular momentum. If we took the Earth an reshaped it into a cylinder it would start to rotate as all the other objects in the universe would affect it gravitationally, pulling it slightly. This rotation would tear it apart and reform it into an accretion disk. Initially the cylindrical Earth would hold us on the flat end but the centripetal force would be weaker at the edges of the flat end and gravity would start to pull in the edges of the flat end. This would then break up the flat Earth end killing us all in the process as it finally reforms a sphere. This can be seen in Saturns rings where only in the plane of the disk can the centripetal force balance the force of gravity. This is also why disk shaped galaxies exist as well as spherical galaxies. 12. An Earth in the shape of a sphere matches all known laws of physics and is similar to the rest of the universe. Reproduction 1. We cannot see a cylindrical or flat planet anywhere else in the known universe. 2. We can see 30 sextillion to the power of a septillion spherical stars and numerous elliptical and spherical galaxies. Conclusion The Earth is not flat or a cylinder but a sphere.
